I know one thing - it sucks to be Black in America. I know that. I mean, like if I'm driving around and I see a cop car, I generally feel safer cuz I know people around me aren't gonna do stupid things with a cop around, right? And, like, I hope the dude doesn't pull me over, cuz that'd suck, but then I'd just have to go to traffic school or whatever for speeding. But if you're Black and you see a cop? Like, you gotta act all rigid and not do anything that might arouse their suspicions (like existing, for example).
I knew this one black guy, and he was real nice. He said he and his friends were on their way to a Bible study thingy, and the cops pulled them over and roughed them up and were trying to look for drugs in their car or any reason to arrest them. Fucking-a, dude. They were on their way to a fucking Bible study, for God's sake. Shit, dude. The cops eventually released them, cuz there was a white person in the car with them, so it made it harder to make a case for it being a car of bad black people, cuz there's this white person with them.
I dunno man. It's a big pile of shit, is what it is. This country's fucked up on so many different levels. And I dunno what George's deal is. Was he being stupid or was he being malicious? Fuck if I know, man. But the jury didn't think he was being malicious. For all I know, maybe they thought he was being stupid, but that's not enuff reason to convict him and all that. And nobody'll ever know what really happened that night, except that there's a dead guy now. And that really sucks. I dunno. The whole thing's so fucked up.
What I feel like, what with this whole self defense thing? Y'know? Like, I feel like George was kinda like a drunk guy in a bar. Here's a drunk guy in a bar, and there's a table of people sitting there, eating food and minding their own business. But the drunk guy spots a dude sitting at the table that reminds him of another person he doesn't like, right? So the drunk guy gets all belligerent and runs up to the table of people and starts a fight with the dude he doensn't like by virtue of his appearance. And then the dude ends up being a better fighter than the drunk guy, and so the drunk guy's all "I'm about to lose this fight. I'd better pull out my gun and shoot him." So he does. And since he was getting beat up pretty bad, he argues that it was self defence that he shot the guy. And the thing is, everything woulda been fine if the drunk guy had just left the other people alone. It would all be fine and there'd be no dead guys.
But, no. George/Drunk Guy had to be all Rambo-ish and run up and accost someone he thought he didn't like by virtue of his appearance.
And the funny thing is - like, dude. We don't even know that Trayvon was beating the crap outta him or not. Cuz we only have George's perspective, y'know. In any event, either scenario (drunken brawl or neighborhood watch scenario), like it's all really stupid. The whole thing is stupid. Sssssttttttuuuuuuupppppppiiiiiiiiddddddd
Okay, I should get back to my studying.
